Women Plan Rwanda Celebrates the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child

Today, October 9, 2026, Women Plan Rwanda participated in the celebration of the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child, under the theme “An Empowered Girl, A Better Future.”

The event took place at GS Munyinya School, located in Shyogwe Sector, Muhanga District.

During the event, we held an interactive discussion with students from Senior One (S1) to Senior Six (S6). We shared various messages emphasizing that girls are capable and should believe in themselves. We encouraged them to have confidence, be courageous, and recognize that whatever their brothers can achieve, they can achieve as well.

We also discussed the theme of the day, “An Empowered Girl, A Better Future.” We invited students to share their thoughts and opinions on the theme, and we provided additional guidance and encouragement to support their understanding.

Furthermore, we sensitized the students on the importance of avoiding sugar daddies, negative peer pressure, drug abuse, and other harmful behaviors that may negatively affect their education and future.

We concluded by reminding the students that their future is in their hands and that they can achieve their dreams through determination, discipline, and positive choices. We encouraged them to avoid behaviors that are inappropriate for young girls and to understand that making the right choices today will lead them to a brighter future.

Finally, we urged them to set clear goals, remain focused on their education, and work hard to become confident, responsible, and successful women who can make a positive difference in their communities.

Women Plan Rwanda remains committed to empowering girls to believe in themselves, make informed decisions, and build a brighter future.
