Women Plan Rwanda celebrated International Women’s Day

Musambira, Kamonyi District: Women Plan Rwanda (WPR), a youth led organization dedicated to women’s empowerment, celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) with enthusiasm in Musambira of Kamonyi district. The event took place on Wednesday, March 08, 2024, brought together stakeholders, volunteers, and community members to commemorate the achievements of women and empower young mothers in the region. Inspired by the vision of its leadership in its 5 years strategic plan, led by the efforts of the WPR Operations personnel and supported by a committed team of staff, internees and volunteers as well as direct beneficiaries from the Single Mothers Empowerment Project (SMEP), the event demonstrated the organization’s commitment to gender equality promotion and community development.

International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women, who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

As IWD gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women, equal pay, equal opportunities and equal rights to participate in social, political and developmental matters, young mothers were encouraged to participate in social actions that may affect their lives including decision making processes.

As the event progressed, the stakeholders received a session about the role of hygiene and sanitation through handwashing, for the mother and child as a crucial parameter to improve the child’s health.

Special guests from local authorities graced the occasion, offering good insights and constructive feedback on the importance of women’s rights and advocating for the social well-being of women and their children. They emphasized the need for collective action in advancing gender equality and urged everyone to play their part in creating a more inclusive society.

The event served as a platform for inspiration, empowerment, and community engagement, reaffirming WPR’s dedication to promote women’s rights and increase change in the area. As the day came to a close, participants left with a renewed sense of purpose and determination to continue championing the cause of gender equality in their communities.
