Education and Health
At Women Plan Rwanda, we recognize that access to both quality education and basic healthcare is fundamental to breaking the cycle of poverty and building resilient communities. Our Education and Health Program is designed to support vulnerable students and families by easing the financial burdens of school fees and health care—two major barriers to long-term well-being and development.
Bridging the Gap in Education
In many rural communities, students are forced to drop out of school simply because their families cannot afford school fees, uniforms, or basic supplies. Girls are particularly at risk, often staying home due to household responsibilities, early marriage, or lack of support.
What We Do
- Provide school fees support to primary and secondary students from low-income families.
- Supply school materials, uniforms, and sanitary pads to help girls stay in school with dignity.
- Collaborate with schools, parents, and community leaders to identify students at risk of dropping out and offer targeted assistance.
- Offer mentorship and academic guidance to ensure supported students succeed and progress through the education system.
Access to Health Care Through Mutuelle de Santé
Healthcare costs can be devastating for poor families, especially in emergencies. Without health insurance, even treatable illnesses can prevent parents from working and children from attending school. That’s why we support families to enroll in Rwanda’s community-based health insurance scheme, Mutuelle de Santé.
Our Health Support Includes:
- Covering annual Mutuelle de Santé for the most vulnerable families.
- Raising awareness about preventive healthcare, maternal health, and nutrition.
- Providing support for families with chronic conditions or high medical needs.
- Ensuring children in our education program are also protected through health insurance, reducing absenteeism due to illness.
Our Impact
So far, our program has enabled hundreds of children to stay in school and hundreds of families to access affordable healthcare services. By linking education with health support, we create a foundation for long-term success, allowing children to learn without interruption and families to live with dignity and security.
