Why does this program matters ?
In rural Rwanda, Many single mothers struggle to provide basic needs, but with support they can break the cycle of poverty and create stability
Our impact
Through this program,we help single mothers and vulnerable families to improve their lives, We support them to develop themselves by providing small livestock such as goats and chickens, which create income and food security, We also encourage them to form savings and lending groups, where they learn financial skills, share resources, and build solidarity. Through these efforts, families gain stability, mothers achieve independence, and communities grow stronger together.
Our Approach
Women Plan Rwanda (WPR) uses a community-centered, participatory, and empowerment-based approach to support single mothers to overcome social and economic challenges and build secure, independent, and resilient lives.
Our approach focuses on:
- Identifying Needs and Priorities
WPR engages single mothers and community stakeholders to understand their specific challenges, needs, skills, and opportunities. Beneficiaries actively participate in planning and implementing activities that affect their lives. - Economic Empowerment and Livelihood Development
We provide single mothers with practical skills in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, vocational training, and income-generating activities. Where appropriate, beneficiaries are supported with productive assets and linked to markets and financial services. - Capacity Building and Mentorship
WPR strengthens the knowledge, confidence, leadership, and decision-making skills of single mothers through training, coaching, and mentorship. This enables them to manage their livelihoods and make informed decisions for themselves and their families. - Savings and Mutual Support
We encourage beneficiaries to participate in savings groups and peer-support networks. These groups promote financial discipline, solidarity, experience sharing, and collective problem-solving. - Gender-Responsive and Rights-Based Approach
WPR promotes the dignity, rights, equality, and meaningful participation of single mothers. We address social norms and barriers that may limit their access to opportunities and services. - Family and Community Engagement
We work with families, local leaders, community structures, and other stakeholders to create a supportive environment for single mothers and reduce stigma and social exclusion. - Partnership and Linkages
WPR builds partnerships with government institutions, private-sector actors, financial institutions, community organizations, and other development partners to increase access to services, markets, resources, and employment opportunities. - Sustainability and Ownership
The project promotes beneficiary ownership by strengthening local capacities and encouraging sustainable income-generating activities. Monitoring, learning, and feedback from beneficiaries are used to continuously improve the project.
