Agriculture and Climate change
At Women Plan Rwanda, we understand that agriculture is the backbone of rural livelihoods—and that climate change poses one of the greatest threats to food security, income, and community resilience. Our Agriculture and Climate Change Program is focused on equipping rural women, youth, and families with the tools, knowledge, and strategies they need to build climate-resilient farming systems, increase productivity, and secure sustainable livelihoods.
The Challenge
In Rwanda, the majority of rural households depend on small-scale farming for survival. However, unpredictable weather patterns, soil degradation, prolonged droughts, and heavy rains caused by climate change are making it increasingly difficult for farmers to grow enough food or generate income. Women, who often bear the responsibility for feeding their families, are especially vulnerable.
That’s why we’re working at the intersection of climate action and rural empowerment to create lasting solutions.
What We Do
- Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) Training
- Home Gardening and Nutrition Support
- Women and Youth in Agribusiness
- Tree Planting and Environmental Restoration
- Community Awareness on Climate Change
Our Impact
Through this program, hundreds of rural families have increased their food production, improved their resilience to climate shocks, and strengthened their economic independence. Women and youth are now leading the way in adopting climate-smart practices, forming cooperatives, and building eco-friendly agribusinesses.
Farming for the Future
Grow sustainably. Adapt to climate change. Empower communities.
By combining traditional knowledge with modern climate-smart practices, we are helping communities protect their environment, sustain their livelihoods, and feed future generations.
