Youth Support and Child Sponsorship

At Women Plan Rwanda, we understand that young people are the foundation of a brighter, more equitable future. Our Youth Support and Child Sponsorship Program is dedicated to creating opportunities for vulnerable children and youth to grow, learn, and lead meaningful lives—regardless of their background or financial situation.

Building Hope, One Child at a Time

In many rural communities across Rwanda, children and youth face immense challenges, including poverty, lack of access to quality education, unemployment, and limited guidance. These obstacles can prevent them from reaching their full potential and contributing positively to their communities.

This program exists to bridge that gap by supporting children’s basic needs and empowering youth with education, skills, and mentorship.

Child Sponsorship Program

Our Child Sponsorship initiative connects compassionate sponsors with children in need, providing essential support to help them succeed in school and life. Our support includes:

  • School fees, uniforms, and learning materials
  • Access to nutritious meals where needed
  • Healthcare support including coverage under Mutuelle de Santé
  • Mentorship and emotional support
  • Regular progress updates and opportunities for sponsor-child interaction

Youth Empowerment Program

For older youth, we provide targeted support to help them transition from education to meaningful employment and leadership roles in society. Our program focus areas are:

  • Vocational training and entrepreneurship support for out-of-school youth
  • Career guidance, life skills, and reproductive health education
  • Youth leadership and advocacy training to amplify their voices in decision-making
  • Start-up support for small youth-led businesses and cooperatives

Our Impact

Thanks to this program, hundreds of children are staying in school and performing well, while many youth are gaining practical skills, starting small businesses, and stepping into leadership roles. With each supported child and empowered young adult, we’re planting the seeds for a stronger, more just Rwanda.
